The Union Budget 2025-26 has introduced several initiatives targeting street vendors, gig workers, and urban workers to improve their financial security and quality of life. Gig workers from online platforms will be provided with identity cards and registered on the e-Shram portal, granting them access to healthcare benefits under the PM Jan Arogya Yojana. This initiative is expected to benefit nearly 1 crore gig workers across the country.
Additionally, a scheme for the socio-economic upliftment of urban workers will be implemented to help vulnerable groups and the urban poor increase their incomes and secure sustainable livelihoods.
The PM SVANidhi scheme is set to undergo significant changes, including enhanced loans from banks, UPI-linked credit cards with a ₹30,000 limit, and additional capacity-building support for street vendors. These measures aim to empower informal sector workers and provide better financial inclusion opportunities.
