Indian benchmark indices closed higher amid volatility on October 10, with the Nifty hovering around the 25,000 mark. The Sensex gained 144.31 points, or 0.18%, closing at 81,611.41, while the Nifty ended 16.50 points higher at 24,998.50, up by 0.07%. Despite the overall positive momentum, several stocks witnessed notable declines.
Here are the top losers from today’s session:
- Cipla: Cipla took a significant hit, closing at ₹1,623.90, down by ₹56.60 or 3.37%. Cipla saw a sharp decline, with heavy selling pressure driving its stock lower.
- Trent: Trent also faced a considerable dip, dropping by ₹185.85 or 2.26% to close at ₹8,035.00. Despite its overall performance throughout the year, today’s session was marked by heavy losses.
- Tech Mahindra: Tech Mahindra followed suit, closing down ₹46.80 or 2.82% at ₹1,612.00. The IT sector as a whole faced challenges, contributing to Tech Mahindra’s slide.
- Sun Pharma: Sun Pharma saw a fall of ₹35.95 or 1.86%, ending the day at ₹1,894.90. Weak sentiment in the pharma sector weighed heavily on its stock.
- Hero MotoCorp: The auto giant Hero MotoCorp recorded a significant drop of ₹92.45 or 1.66%, closing at ₹5,462.15, despite a generally stable performance in previous sessions.
Other notable losers included Britannia and Dr. Reddy’s, which also registered declines of over 1%.
While the Nifty’s top gainers included Kotak Mahindra Bank, HDFC Bank, Bharat Electronics, and Maruti Suzuki, the session reflected a mixed sentiment with select sectors, particularly IT and Pharma, dragging overall market performance.
On the sectoral front, the IT index was down by 1%, the pharma index declined by 2%, and the realty index shed 0.4%. In contrast, the banking index rose by 1%, and the power and metals indices added 0.7% and 0.3%, respectively.
