Stock Market Opening: Bajaj Finserv top gainer, Coal India drops down the scale

Today, markets opened with a red mark at the pre-market. At 09:43 IST, the Sensex took a dive at 18.35 points or 0.04% at 44161.70, and the Nifty showed plus 3.90 points or 0.03% at 12942.20.

About 1227 shares have advanced, 700 shares declined, and 88 shares are unchanged. Nifty’s top gainer at the market opening reported being Bajaj Finserv adding 5.10% and the top loser, Coal India registering a drop of 3.66%. Kotak Bank was the only one among Nifty banks reflecting a rise of 0.46%. On the BSE Sensex, the top gainer at the market opening was Bajaj Finserv adding 5.12% while ICICI reported the greatest drop of 1.53%. Nifty Metal Index rose 1.7 percent led by the Nalco, Tata Steel, Hindalco.

The Indian rupee opened 10 paise lower at 74.29 per dollar against the previous close of 74.19, amid volatile trade conducted in the domestic equity market. Mahindra & Mahindra, Wipro, Hero MotoCorp, Vedanta are among stocks that will be in focus today.

Hero MotoCorp has jumped up by 3 % as of 9:36 am. India’s largest two-wheeler maker has recorded retail sales of more than 1.4 million motorcycles and scooters during the 31-day festive period.

On Wednesday, Mahindra & Mahindra was the top gainer and Wipro also remained one of the companies basking in the top-most gainers’ section. Vedanta grabbed eyeballs as it confirmed its participation in the tussle to secure BPCL stake.

TCS, Pfizer and aviation stocks will also be tracked in trade today. As of 10:30 am TCS is pacing up and added 1.26% amongst the backdrop of general progress in IT sector as the US & European banks increased technology spending. As of 10:01 am SpiceJet rallied by 10%. Boeing 737 max is set to get an approval nod in the US, and the proceedings are keenly observed in India as flights are expected to resume.

Pfizer announced promising news regarding the COVID-19 vaccine, with its vaccine assuring an efficiency rate above 90%. Since this positive news the share price has climbed up and as of 10:29 am, Pfizer has climbed up by 3.41%.

Top companies with a negative mark at the market opening today registered to be Coal India, UPL, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank and Asian Paints. Especially private banks are at a low today. Laxmi Vilas Bank has been making headline since past 3 days and has remained in notice at the market.

Laxmi Vilas Bank amalgamation was announced as ordained by RBI and this shall be the 3rd bank to get rescued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in a span of just a year, the other 2 being Yes Bank and Punjab and Maharashtra Co-operative (PMC) Bank.

Gold Prices continue to fall with gold futures rushed down, 0.3% to ₹50,180 per 10 gram in its fourth straight day of falling while silver futures declined 0.8% to ₹62,043 per kg.
