Shares of Som Distilleries and Breweries fell by 15% in early trade on June 18 following an announcement by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) that 50 children were found working at the company’s plant in Madhya Pradesh.

The NCPCR chairperson reported that over 50 children, including 20 young girls, were discovered at the plant. Many of these children had burns on their hands from contact with chemicals.

A case has been filed against Som Distilleries under juvenile justice and bonded labour laws. The Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister’s Office stated on social media platform X, “The case of child labour during a raid on a factory in Raisen district has come to my notice. This matter is very serious. In this regard, detailed information has been obtained from the officials of Labor, Excise and Police departments and instructions have been given for appropriate action. Strictest action will be taken against the culprits.”

As of 10:15 AM, Som Distilleries shares were trading 10.29% lower at ₹111.80 on the NSE.
