Mumbai, Oct 26 : Extending its losing streak to the sixth straight session, the BSE Sensex on Thursday tanked 900.91 pts at 63,148.15 following rising U.S. Treasury yields intensifying fears of interest rates staying higher for longer duration along with heavy selling in Auto, Metal, Oil and Gas and Financial Services stocks.
The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) slipped 264.90 pts at 18,857.25.
The day opened on a weak note at 63,774.16, fell 275 pts. During the day, the Sensex dropped 957 pts at 63,092.98, days low, before closing at 63,148.15, sliding 900.91 pts from its previous close.
In stocks, Auto, Metal, Oil and Gas and Financial Services dragged the market further.
Auto fell by 1.81 pc followed by Metal and Oil and Gas by 1.54 pc each, Financial Services by 1.46 pc.
In scrips, M & M was a major loser, down 4.06 pc to Rs 1504.85, Bajaj Finance by 3.54 pc to Rs 7421.15, Asian Paints by 3.36 pc to Rs 2958.40, Bajaj Finserv by 3.16 pc to Rs 1559 and Asian Paints by 3.36 pc to Rs 2958.40.
The gainers were Axis Bank by 1.74 pc to Rs 971.95, ITC by 0.35 pc to Rs 434.10 and HCL Technologies by 0.20 pc to Rs 1231.45.
The Mid Cap declined by 1.06 pc and Small Cap by 0.32 pc.
In 30 scrips, five advanced while 25 declined.
