Mumbai, Oct 23 : The equity market crashed for the fourth consecutive session on Monday, as the BSE Sensex dropped 825.74 pts to close , below 65K to 64,571.88 tracking Asian peers, as the widening conflict in the Middle East dampened the sentiments.
The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) slipped 260.90 pts at 19,281.75.
The Sensex opened higher at 65,419.02, rising 22 pts. It was surged 56 pts at 65,453. Later it was slumped 895 pts at 64,502, days low, before closing at 64,571.88 from its previous close.
The stocks that kept the market in red were Telecommunications by 3.82 pc, Utilities by 3.10 pc and Metal by 3.01 pc.
The scrips that fell were JSW Steel by 2.99 pc to Rs 747, Tata Motors by 2.52 pc to Rs 646, Tata Steel by 2.52 pc to Rs 120, TCS by 2.47 pc to Rs 3407.80 and NTPC by 2.37 pc to Rs 235.25.
The gainers were M& M by 0.41 pc to Rs 1564.65 and Bajaj finance by 0.05 pc to Rs 7770.
In 30 scrips, 2 advanced while 28 declined.
The Mid Cap declined by 2.51 pc and Small Cap by 4.18 pc.
The Asian Market remained weak as Nikkei slid by 0.84 pc, Straits Times by 0.76 pc and Hang Seng by 0.72 pc.
There will be no trading tomorrow, on Tuesday on account of ‘Dashera’ festival, traders informed.
