Shares of Samvardhana Motherson International Ltd plunged 7.32% on Friday to ₹119.50, deepening the two-day loss to nearly 10%. The sell-off comes as investors react to US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a 25% reciprocal tariff on imported automobiles, triggering broad concerns across the Indian auto component sector.
According to market experts, Motherson derives about 20% of its revenue from the U.S., making it the company’s second largest market after India. The company supplies wiring harnesses, polymer modules, vision systems, and a range of other auto components to global OEMs, and the imposition of U.S. tariffs is expected to impact revenue visibility.
In its latest earnings call, the company said the effect of the tariffs could be passed on to customers, though the financial hit may be visible with a one-quarter lag. On Thursday, the stock had already fallen 2.6% on the NSE, closing at ₹131 apiece.

The broader Nifty Auto index has also remained under pressure amid fears that India’s $6–7 billion worth of auto exports to the U.S. could be severely disrupted by the new tariff policy.
