Rinku Singh acknowledges MS Dhoni’s mentorship in nerve-wracking T20 victory

Emerging as Team India’s new sensation, Rinku Singh attributes his calmness in the death overs, crucial to the side’s victory in the IND vs AUS 1st T20, to the guidance of former captain MS Dhoni. In a video shared by BCCI, Rinku Singh expressed how the situation on the field was tailor-made for his batting prowess.

“It was a perfect situation for me when I went out to bat. I was staying calm and was just trying to repeat what I have been doing in these kinds of situations. There’s no specific reason for being calm. However, I talked to Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni) several times, and he told me to stay focused and try to hit as straight as possible in the death overs,” shared Rinku Singh.

In the thrilling final over, with India needing 1 run off the last ball, Rinku Singh smashed a straight six, seemingly securing the victory. However, the six was nullified as Sean Abbott had bowled a no-ball, providing the necessary run. Rinku Singh, unaware of the no-ball at the moment, revealed, “I did not know that it was a no-ball. I was told by Arshdeep Singh that it was not a legal delivery when I went back to the dressing room. However, it does not matter if the runs were given to me or not as long as we won.”
