National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) declared a net profit of Rs 4,854.36 crore for the quarter ended December 2022 on January 28, up nearly 5% from the previous year.
The company’s consolidated net profit in the third quarter of the previous fiscal year was Rs 4,626.11 crore.
The state-owned electricity company also recorded a considerable increase in overall income in Q3 FY23, which increased to Rs 44,989.21 crore from Rs 33,783.62 crore the previous year.
For the fiscal year 2022-23, NTPC informed the stock markets that its board of directors has agreed to pay an interim dividend of 42.50 percent (Rs 4.25 per share) on the face value of paid-up equity shares of Rs 10 each.
The company’s average electricity tariff from April to December 2022 was Rs 4.96 per unit, up from Rs 3.95 per unit the previous year.
The third-quarter plant load factor (PLF or capacity utilisation) of coal-fired thermal power plants increased to 68.85 percent from 67.72 percent.
Imported coal supply increased to 1.57 MMT in the third quarter, up from 0.52 MMT the previous year.
Domestic coal supply fell from 54.96 MMT to 52.45 MMT. The quarter’s coal production from captive mines was 5.35 MMT, up from 4 MMT the previous year.
As of December 31, 2022, the NTPC Group’s total installed capacity (including JVs and subsidiaries) was 70,884 MW.
Its gross electricity generation increased to 78.64 billion units (BU) in the third quarter, up from 75.67 BU the previous year.
