Equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty 50 witnessed sharp declines on Friday (August 22), snapping their six-day winning run as heavy selling pressure emerged across sectors.

The 30-share BSE Sensex tumbled 693.86 points, or 0.85%, to close at 81,306.85, after hitting an intraday low of 81,291.77. Similarly, the NSE Nifty 50 slipped 213.65 points, or 0.85%, to settle at 24,870.10.
