Indian equity benchmarks closed the first trading session of 2026 on a mixed note amid intraday volatility. The Sensex slipped 32 points, or 0.04 percent, to end at 85,188.60, while the Nifty 50 managed a modest gain of 16.95 points, or 0.06 percent, finishing at 26,146.55.  Here are the top gainers from the Nifty 50 index (as per Trendline).

  • Shriram Finance closed 2.6% higher at ₹1,022.5, emerging as the top gainer on the Nifty 50.

  • Bajaj Auto ended the session up 2.3% at ₹9,561.

  • NTPC gained 2.1% to close at ₹336.6.

  • Eternal settled 2.1% higher at ₹283.9.

  • Wipro finished 1.6% up at ₹267.5.

  • Larsen & Toubro closed 1.4% higher at ₹4,140.7.

  • Mahindra & Mahindra ended up 1.4% at ₹3,760.5.

  • Tech Mahindra rose 1.1% to close at ₹1,607.6.

  • Tata Steel added 1.1%, finishing the day at ₹182.

  • InterGlobe Aviation rounded off the gainers with a 1.0% rise to ₹5,109.5.
