This year, on the auspicious occasion of Diwali, the stock market will open for a special one-hour session called Muhurat Trading. Despite the official holiday on November 1, 2024, for the public, banks, and regular market hours, the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) will allow investors to trade during this short, symbolic period.
The Muhurat trading session is scheduled for Friday, November 1, 2024, from 6:15 PM to 7:15 PM. This one-hour window allows for trading in equities, derivatives, commodities, bonds, and currency markets. Like any regular trading day, pre- and post-market settlement sessions will be part of this period, though condensed to fit within the one-hour session.
The tradition of Muhurat trading has been followed for years, as it is considered auspicious to make financial decisions during this time, especially for long-term gains. It is believed to bring prosperity and wealth in the new financial year.
Last year, Muhurat trading took place on November 12, 2023, from 6:15 PM to 7:15 PM, following a similar format with pre- and post-market settlements around the main trading session.
