
The markets crashed heavily at closing after a positive start earlier. Strong selling noticed in Auto and Banking stocks dragged the markets down with Nifty losing the 11200 mark and Sensex below 38000.
At close, the Sensex was down 433.15 points or 1.13% at 37877.34, and the Nifty was down 122.10 points or 1.08% at 11178.40. Nifty Bank closed lower by 503 points, or 2.27%, at 21693.10.
Highlights as of Market Closing:
- Selling seen in the auto and banking names in the second half dragged the Nifty and Sensex below the crucial levels.
- JSW steel, Sun Pharma, Coal India and Cipla among the top gainers of Nifty.
- Eicher Motors, Tata Motors, M&M and Bajaj Finance among the top losers of Nifty.
- All sectoral indices closed red except Metal and Pharma.
- 1085 shares advanced, 1600 shares declined and 133 remain unchanged at market closing.
- BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices closed lower by 0.5-1 percent.
- Banking index dragged mostly by Axis Bank, Bandhan Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank.
