The Maharashtra government has announced a change in the date of the Eid-e-Milad public holiday for Mumbai City and Mumbai Suburban districts. Originally scheduled for Friday, September 5, 2025, the holiday will now be observed on Monday, September 8, 2025.
Reason for the change
The adjustment was made to avoid a clash with Anant Chaturdashi, the Hindu festival that falls on Saturday, September 6, 2025. To maintain harmony and ease festival processions, various Muslim organizations agreed to shift Eid-e-Milad observances to September 8.
Applicability across districts
The government order clarifies that the change applies only to Mumbai City and Mumbai Suburban districts. For all other districts in Maharashtra, the Eid-e-Milad holiday will remain on September 5, 2025.
Background
Eid-e-Milad, celebrated widely by the Muslim community, includes large-scale processions. With Anant Chaturdashi processions also scheduled around the same period, the government moved the holiday date in Mumbai to ensure smooth celebrations and communal harmony.
