Jio Platforms Limited (JPL) has announced a strategic agreement with SpaceX to introduce Starlink’s broadband internet services to its customers in India. The collaboration, which is subject to regulatory approvals, aims to enhance connectivity across the country, especially in rural and remote areas.

Under the agreement, Jio will offer Starlink’s solutions through its retail stores and online platforms, making satellite-based high-speed internet more accessible. Additionally, Jio will establish a customer service mechanism for installation and activation, ensuring seamless adoption of the service.

Jio and SpaceX plan to leverage their respective infrastructure to further enhance India’s digital ecosystem. While Jio is the world’s largest mobile operator in terms of data traffic, Starlink operates the largest low-Earth orbit satellite constellation, making this partnership a significant step toward expanding broadband access.

Mathew Oommen, Group CEO of Reliance Jio, stated that ensuring high-speed and affordable internet for every Indian remains Jio’s top priority. He emphasized that integrating Starlink into Jio’s broadband ecosystem will boost connectivity and empower communities and businesses.

Gwynne Shotwell, President and COO of SpaceX, applauded Jio’s efforts in advancing India’s digital landscape and expressed optimism about receiving government approvals to roll out Starlink’s services in India.

This partnership will complement Jio’s existing broadband services, JioAirFiber and JioFiber, by enabling fast and affordable internet in areas where traditional infrastructure faces challenges. Jio and SpaceX are also exploring additional avenues of collaboration to enhance India’s digital growth further.
