The Indian stock market will be closed on Friday, March 14, 2025, on account of Holi, as per the holiday calendar issued by the NSE and BSE. Trading will resume on Monday, March 17, following the extended weekend break.

The closure will impact trading in all major segments, including equity, equity derivatives, securities lending and borrowing (SLB), electronic gold receipts (EGR), and currency derivatives.

The Indian stock market has witnessed significant pressure in recent months, with the Nifty declining approximately 15% from its September peak. This marks the first time in history that the index has fallen for five consecutive months without a rebound.

Market sentiment has been weighed down by global economic uncertainty, rising interest rates, and continuous selling by foreign institutional investors (FIIs). Brokerage firm Motilal Oswal highlighted that while the Nifty 50 is currently trading 9% below its historical average, mid-cap and small-cap stocks remain overvalued by 22-25%, suggesting a potential correction in the broader market.

Holi, a widely celebrated Hindu festival, usually falls in March as per the Hindu lunar calendar, and the Indian stock exchanges traditionally observe a full-day closure for the festival.
