Sensex, Nifty end flat amid volatility; PSU Banks and Realty rose 3 per cent each

Asian Paints, Grasim Industries, SBI, SBI Life Insurance DLF and M&M were among the top Nifty Gainers while Titan Company, HDFC, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Tata Consumer were the losers on the losing side.

Benchmark indices ended on a flat note in the highly volatile session on Friday. At close, the BSE Sensex was down 20.46 points at 58,786.67 and the Nifty was down 5.50 points at 17,511.30.   

About 2024 shares have advanced, 1165 shares were declined and 125 shares were unchanged.  


The benchmarks opened on a negative note amid weak global cues of the weak sentiments in the global market which still awaits the release of Indian and US November inflation numbers. Asian and European indices were trading weak ahead of the US inflation data release as the market expects inflation levels to remain elevated, said Geojit Financial Services. 

Losses in the Financial sector pressurised the indices lower while sectors like PSU Banks and Realty indices rose nearly 3 per cent each, while metals, oil & gas, power indices ended in the green line. These stocks helped in wiped out losses along with the strong support from the Midcaps and Small Caps market.  

Among sectors that rose on the indices were Nifty PSU Banks, Pharmaceutical, Metals. While PSU banks index rose to 3 per cent each and the metals added 0.5 per cent. 

Asian Paints, DLF, Berger Paints,  SAIL, Vedanta, Tata Steel, Sun Pharmaceuticals, Grasim Industries, SBI, SBI Insurance, M&M and Siemens were among the top gainers while Titan Company HDFC, Muthoot Finance, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Bandhan Bank, Tata Consumer and ICICI Prudential were on the losing side of the stock market.
