In a key boost to India’s air defence capabilities, the Indian Army on Wednesday successfully conducted high-altitude trials of the indigenously developed Akash Prime surface-to-air missile system in Ladakh, putting Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) shares in focus.
The tests, carried out at over 15,000 feet by the Army Air Defence along with senior officials from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), achieved two direct hits on fast-moving aerial targets in the rarefied atmosphere, showcasing the missile system’s effectiveness under extreme conditions.
BDL, which manufactures the Akash Prime system in collaboration with Bharat Electronics Limited, could see positive sentiment as the Army prepares to induct Akash Prime into its third and fourth regiments.
The system had earlier demonstrated its operational success during Operation Sindoor, where it helped counter aerial threats from Pakistan using Chinese jets and Turkish drones.
Akash Prime, developed by DRDO and produced by BDL and Bharat Electronics, is designed specifically for low-temperature and high-altitude operations, enhancing India’s defensive capabilities along sensitive borders.
At the time of writing, BDL shares were trading actively, with investors watching for further updates on the induction and potential order flows following the successful tests.
