Shares of Bharat Dynamics were in focus after the Defence Research and Development Organisation successfully completed user evaluation trials of the next-generation Akash air defence missile system, according to a government statement.

In a post on X, the DRDO said that the user evaluation trials of Akash-NG missile were successfully completed, meeting all Preliminary Staff Qualitative Requirements (PSQR). The trials demonstrated the system’s high precision and effectiveness against a wide range of aerial threats, including high-speed, low-altitude targets as well as long-range, high-altitude targets.

During the evaluation, the Akash-NG missiles intercepted aerial targets at different ranges and altitudes, covering near-boundary low-altitude scenarios and long-range, high-altitude engagements. The DRDO described Akash-NG as a potent air defence system, featuring an indigenous radio frequency seeker and a solid rocket motor, designed to counter multiple types of aerial threats.

The Ministry of Defence also confirmed the successful completion of the trials, calling it a major step towards strengthening India’s air defence capabilities. In its statement, the ministry said the successful trials pave the way for the induction of Akash-NG into the Indian Armed Forces.

The ministry added that Akash-NG is equipped with an indigenous RF seeker, a dual-pulse solid rocket motor, and fully homegrown radars and command-and-control systems, highlighting a significant boost to India’s self-reliance in defence technology.

The Akash missile system is an indigenous short-range surface-to-air missile (SAM) developed by DRDO and manufactured by Bharat Dynamics Limited to protect vulnerable areas from aerial attacks. The system has an operational range of 25–30 kilometres, is capable of engaging multiple targets simultaneously, and offers high mobility, making it suitable for deployment by both the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force.
