While Indian stock markets remain closed today on account of Good Friday, select Asian markets that are open are trading on a mixed note.
Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 is up 189.64 points, or 0.55%, at 34,567.24, buoyed by gains in tech and auto stocks. Investor sentiment in Tokyo continues to be driven by optimism around corporate earnings and a weaker yen.
South Korea’s KOSPI index is also in the green, rising 5.98 points or 0.24%, to trade at 2,476.39 as of 07:27 IST. Gains were supported by buying in semiconductor and industrial shares.
However, China’s Shanghai Composite is under pressure, down 12.43 points or 0.38%, at 3,267.91, amid concerns over sluggish economic recovery data and geopolitical tensions weighing on investor sentiment.
Other Asian markets including Hang Seng, SET Composite, Jakarta Composite, and Straits Times are closed today.
Markets are expected to resume broader activity next week after the global holiday period, with investors keeping an eye on US earnings season and geopolitical developments.
