The Supreme Court of India has issued new operating procedures in relation to the final hearing of cases in a live physical backdrop with effect from September 1. These standards will also enable a hybrid choice for the bench from Tuesday to Thursday amidst the COVID norms. The top court has been initiating cases for hearing via., video-conferencing mode from March 2020 pertaining to the restraints on physical gatherings.

The Standard procedure stated that, Wearing of mask, frequent use of hand sanitiser and maintaining physical distancing norms are mandatory for all entrants into the Supreme Court premises, including into the Courtrooms.

A CJI bench announced that that physical hearing within the apex court may start within 10 days. The idea of physical hearing came into highlights in July 2021, yet again, when the SCBA wrote a letter to CJI citing the need for physical hearing in the apex court quoting, the COVID-19 situation within the capital has become “almost normal”.
