On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a virtual cabinet meeting and was attended by all union ministers.

Ministers discussed the present economic situation and some big projects for approval.

The Union Cabinet has given its approval for signing a Memorandum of Understanding between Central Drugs Standard Control Organization, India, and the United Kingdom Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (UK MHRA) on co-operation in the field of medical product regulation.

The press statement from the Cabinet said, “The MoU will help in establishing a framework for fruitful co-operation and exchange of information between the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization and the United Kingdom Medicine and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency of the United Kingdom in matters relating to medical products regulation in line with their international responsibilities.”

The Union Cabinet has also signed the Memorandum of Understanding between India and Israel on Co-operation in the field of health and medicine. According to a press statement from the cabinet, the MoU covers areas of co-operation in “Exchange and training of medical doctors and other health professionals.”

The area covers, “Assistance in development of human resources and setting up of health care facilities; exchange of information regarding the regulation of pharmaceutical, medical devices, and cosmetics; sharing expertise for vulnerability assessment for the health of citizens against climate risk and public health actions targeted towards mitigation and adaptation.”

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved an investment of Rs 1810.56 crore for 210 MW Luhri Stage-1 Hydroelectric Project located on Satluj River. The project will generate 758.20 million units of electricity annually.

Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted “Big gift to the people of Himachal from PM @NarendraModi. As Modi Govt has approved 210MW Luhri Hyrdo Power Project worth Rupees 1810 crore in today’s cabinet. This clean energy project will help in reducing pollution and generating huge employment opportunities in the region.”

 

Situated in Shimla and Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh, the project is being implemented by Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited on a Build-Own-Operate-Maintain basis with active support from central and state government.
