Ahead of the Union Budget 2025, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh expressed skepticism over the government’s ability to introduce impactful measures, raising concerns about private investment stimulation, tax policies, and the need for GST reforms.
“Budget has an intent and content—both define the extent of the budget. We don’t have much expectation that some big announcements will be made to encourage private investment,” Ramesh stated.
He highlighted the uncertainty surrounding potential tax relief for the middle class and criticized the current tax environment, referring to it as ‘tax terrorism’. “Let’s see if investors get some relaxation from this tax pressure,” he added.
Ramesh also emphasized the need for GST reforms, stating, “We have demanded some reforms in GST. Modi 3.0 is being discussed all over the world, let’s see when GST 2.0 comes.”
With these remarks, the opposition has spotlighted key areas of concern as the nation awaits the Union Budget 2025, focusing on private sector growth, middle-class tax relief, and a restructured GST framework.
