Only two months after the Centre’s launch of a new income tax filing portal, i.e., www.incometax.gov.in, taxpayers have noted the portal to not function properly.

The revamped portal was introduced with an aim of improving the experience of taxpayers as well as making the process of filing income tax returns (ITRs) smooth and uninterrupted by giving pre-filled information to taxpaying citizens.

Nevertheless, lately, taxpayers have been complaining about social media sites including Twitter about the glitches. One of them had tweeted to Income Tax India’s official account asking them the reason of the portal being slow.

Even though the due date of ITR has been relaxed, taxpayers filing ITRs for FY21 in the last few days had to pay a late filing fee.

To which, Income Tax India responded with,

Many taxpayers had reported that they were unable to download the acknowledgement receipt and e-verify ITR.

Manthan Experts, a taxation and business management company, took it to Twitter requesting officials to resolve the technical issue as clients were pressurizing them for the e-verification even when the portal wasn’t allowing them to do so.

Chartered Accountant (CA) Kamal Murarka, while tagging FM Nirmala Sitharaman, PM Modi and Infosys wrote on Twitter, “Two months completed since the introduction of New Income Tax Website and still this is not working fine. Lots of issues are there. Even ITRs filed are not processing by the department.”
