
Today on September 17, the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council has permitted some proposals to be put forth by the Fitment Committee, the council chaired by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh according to the sources of CNBC- TV18.
The council review the GST rate on more than four dozen items, which includes online food delivery services. It was expected that the GST council to extend the last date for concessions on 11 COVID-19 drugs.
It was being informed by the Finance Ministry on Twitter, “Finance Minister Smt @nsitharaman will chair the 45th GST Council meeting at 11 AM in Lucknow tomorrow. The meeting will be attended by MOS Shri @mppchaudhary besides Finance Ministers of States & UTs and Senior officers from Union Government & States.”

As per the report of CNBC-TV18 the Fitment committee proposals that are being permitted by the GST council includes :
- Carbonate fruit beverages of fruit drink and carbonated beverages with fruit juice to attract GST rate by 28 percent plus compensation of 12 percent.
- Increasing GST rate from 5 percent to 18 percent on iron, manganese, copper, nickel, cobalt, aluminium, lead, zinc, tin, chromium-ores, and concentrates.
- Levying 18 percent GST on paper sacks. Reduction in GST of fortified rice kernel from 18 percent to 5 percent for ICDS or similar scheme.
- Reduce GST on oncology medicine from 12 percent to 5 percent.
- GST rate on waste parings and scrap of polyurethane and other plastic may be increased to 18 percent from 5 percent.
- recommends having a single rate of 18 percent on all sorts of pens.
- Reduces GST on biodiesel supplied to OMCs for bleeding with diesel from 12 percent to 5 percent.
- Henna powder and leaves to be taxed at 5 percent, and renewable equipment of 12 percent GST rate.
