In the interim budget presentation, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman underscored the significance of Tribal Welfare, emphasizing the role of the PM Janman Yojana in aiding tribal groups that have been historically underserved in the development landscape.
Launched on November 15, PM-JANMAN is a dedicated initiative for the socio-economic welfare of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs). Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi marked the occasion of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas by disbursing the first instalment to 1 lakh beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY – G) under the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) on January 15, 2024, through a video conferencing event.
With an estimated budget of around ₹24,000 crore, PM-JANMAN focuses on 11 pivotal interventions across nine ministries. The initiative aims to enhance the socio-economic conditions of PVTGs by ensuring comprehensive facilities in their households and habitations. This includes provisions for safe housing, clean drinking water, sanitation, improved access to education, health and nutrition, electricity, road and telecom connectivity, and sustainable livelihood opportunities. The overarching goal is to create a positive impact on the lives of PVTGs by addressing their diverse needs and fostering holistic development.
