The 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL)2020, is set to start from Saturday, with eight teams representing eight different cities of the country. This time due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the country, the tournament has been shifted to United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The Indian Premier League (IPL) which is contested every year in the month of March, April and May, will make a comeback of Indian cricketers back to the field after six months. The first clash of IPL 2020 is set to be between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Saturday.
A day before the start of IPL 2020-here’s a look at the salaries of IPL captains.
Virat Kohli: 17 crore
Virat Kohli is the highest paid player in the IPL history. Virat Kohli was bought by RCB for amount of Rs 17 crore, 2 crore more than the highest retention price. Virat Kohli is the only player to represent just one franchise in every IPL season. Virat Kohli led Royal Challengers Banglore (RCB) is yet to win the IPL title.
Rohit Sharma: 15 crore
Rohit Sharma was retained by Mumbai Indians for Rs 15 crore. Rohit shart is the most successful captain in the IPL, with four titles. The right-handed batsman had first joined MI in 2011.
MS Dhoni: 15 crore
The most consistent captain in IPL. MS Dhoni was bought by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the price of Rs 15 crore. MS Dhoni was the first choice in the IPL 2018.
Steve Smith: 12 crore
The former Australia captain was retained by Rajashthan Royals (RR) for 12 crore at 2018. However, he missed out on earning amount due to the one-year ban. Smith made his comeback in the IPL in the year 2019, and took the captaincy title from Ajinkya Rahane.
David Warner: 12 crore
Warner has a salary of 12 crore. David Warner is set to lead the Hyderabad- based team. Warner won Orange Cap in 2019.
KL Rahul: 11 crore
KL Rahul was bought by Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) for 11 crore. KL Rahul was one of the top picks in IPL 2018 auction. Rahul has scored 1252 runs for the team, striking at 146.60.
Dinesh Karthik: 7.4 crore
Dinesh Karthik joined KKR at the amount of Rs 7.4 crore. Dinesh Karthik was surprisingly given the captaincy title by the management. Dinesh Karthik had drawn bids from Mumbai Indians (MI), Rajasthan Royals (RR), Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Shreyas Iyer: 7 crore
Shreyas Iyer was picked by Delhi Capitals (DC) at the amount of Rs 7 crore. Shreyas was a surprise pick for captaincy as many expected it to be Rishabh Pant, who had led Delhi to Ranji Trophy final a few months back.
