Kannan Pattambi, a familiar name behind the scenes of the Malayalam film industry, passed away on Sunday night at the age of 62. He breathed his last at around 11:40 PM on January 4 while undergoing treatment for a kidney-related ailment at a private hospital in Kozhikode. The news of his demise was confirmed by his brother, filmmaker and actor Major Ravi, leaving the Malayalam cinema fraternity in deep mourning.

Major Ravi shared the heartbreaking news through a Facebook post written in Malayalam, remembering his younger brother with deep emotion. He also announced that the funeral would be held at their residence in Pattambi’s Njangattiri on Monday at 4 PM.

Kannan Pattambi was associated with the Malayalam film industry for several decades and built a reputation as a dependable production controller, a role crucial to the smooth execution of film projects. Alongside his technical work, he also appeared as an actor in several films, quietly contributing to cinema both in front of and behind the camera.

Being the younger brother of Major Ravi, Kannan collaborated on multiple projects linked to his brother’s filmmaking journey. One of the most notable among them was Mission 90 Days, a film inspired by Major Ravi’s personal experiences during the investigation of the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, where Kannan was involved in the production.
