Fans of MobLand were left shocked after reports surfaced claiming Tom Hardy may not return for Season 3 of the hit Paramount+ crime drama.
According to a new report from Puck News, Hardy is reportedly out of the series following behind-the-scenes tensions with producers Jez Butterworth and David Glasser during the production of Season 2.
The development has sparked major discussion among fans, especially after MobLand became one of Paramount+’s biggest global launches.
What Happened Between Tom Hardy and the MobLand Producers?
Puck reports that Paramount decided not to exercise Hardy’s option for Season 3 after multiple reported clashes behind the scenes.
Hardy plays Harry Da Souza, the fixer deeply tied to the powerful Harrigan crime family in the series. While the show initially appeared heavily centered around Hardy’s character, reports suggest creative disagreements began emerging during Season 2 production.
According to the report, Hardy was allegedly late to set multiple times and frequently pushed for script changes. Reports also claimed the actor often attempted to alter dialogue and give extensive notes on scripts.
The tensions reportedly escalated because Hardy was unhappy with the direction of the show.
MobLand’s Shift Toward an Ensemble Cast
One major issue reportedly involved the evolving focus of the series.
Puck claims Hardy became frustrated as MobLand shifted into more of an ensemble drama featuring stronger storylines for stars like Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan.
The report suggests Hardy expected the series to remain primarily centered around his character, but the growing prominence of the wider cast reportedly became a point of tension.
MobLand quickly became a breakout success for Paramount+, with the company previously revealing the series drew 2.2 million viewers on premiere day, making it the streamer’s biggest global series premiere at the time.
Jez Butterworth Nearly Quit MobLand?
The report also claims the behind-the-scenes situation became severe enough that Butterworth allegedly threatened to leave the project.
According to Puck, Paramount ultimately chose to move forward without Hardy rather than risk losing Butterworth, who plays a major creative role in the series.
However, there is still some uncertainty surrounding Hardy’s exit.
Puck noted that Hardy’s agreement for Season 3 reportedly included a mutual option, meaning the actor himself could also have chosen to walk away from the project.
Neither Hardy nor Paramount publicly addressed the claims. Representatives for both parties reportedly declined to comment.
Is Tom Hardy Officially Leaving MobLand?
As of now, Paramount has not officially confirmed Hardy’s departure from MobLand Season 3.
Because neither the studio nor the actor has publicly commented, the reports remain unverified beyond Puck’s sourcing.
Still, the news has fueled speculation about the future of the hit crime drama and whether the show can continue successfully without Hardy’s central character.
With MobLand already becoming one of Paramount+’s biggest originals, fans will now be closely watching for any official updates regarding Season 3 and the future of Harry Da Souza.
