Dayaben, a well-known character played by Disha Vakani, has been absent from Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah for more than six years.
Disha, who once portrayed Daya Jethalal Gada in Asit Kumar Modi’s sitcom, had an extended maternity break in 2017 and hasn’t made an appearance since. For all TMKOC enthusiasts, there may be some good news, though.
Producer Asit Modi made a significant news that he would soon be bringing back fans’ beloved Disha Vakani aka Dayaben to celebrate his 15 years of successfully delighting viewers.
He said, “In this journey of 15 years, a hearty congratulations to all of them. One such artist is whom we cannot forget. That artist isDaya Bhabhi aka Disha Vakani. She has entertained the fans and also made us laugh for all these years. Fans have been waiting for her to come back and I promise you all that Disha Vakani will soon be back to Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah.”
Since about 15 years ago, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has been performing well. The performers Disha Vakani, Bhavya Gandhi, Shailesh Lodha, and Neha Mehta among others have left the show over the years. Raj Anadkat, who once played Tappu in the well-known sitcom, quit the programme recently as well.
In March this year, Asit Kumar Modi had addressed the back-to-back exits of many actors from his show. “I am also tired of answering and requesting people not to ask this question. But I am the producer of the show and therefore I’ll have to answer. Even today I wish that our original Daya Bhabhi aka Disha Vakani comes back. Disha is like my sister. She wants to spend time with her family. She has two kids. If she does not want to come back, I cannot force her,” he told News18 Showsha.
Sharing an update about finding the new Dayaben, Asit said, “I am looking for new Daya Bhabhi. It is not easy to play the role of Dayaben. Everyone knows the way Disha Vakani did it. Even today, she is missed. It is not easy to find a new person for the role. This does not mean I am afraid. I am not afraid but I am looking for perfection. It is impossible to take Disha’s place. Her performance was great but I am finding somebody who can impress everyone with her style. It takes time but we will have Dayaben back soon.”
