Emmy Awards 2020: Schitt’s Creek wins 7 awards in a row, here’s all other details

Emmy awards is the most celebrated award function when it comes to American Television which has been taking place since year 1941. This year marked the 72nd year of this prestigious award show amid the global pandemic where the celebrities took part in the event by sitting right at their homes through online medium. The celebration opened with host Jimmy Kimmel’s monologue including a pun about this year’s ‘pand-emmys’, where he addressed an empty theater in Los Angeles which remained closed for public amid COVID-19 condition.

Keeping in mind the required social-distancing, this year Emmy’s had no red carpet, no star-struck audience and the winners collected their trophies from home. Talking about the winners this year, comedy series- Schitt’s Creek grabbed total 7 trophies in the comedy category making an Emmy history. Not just winning Outstanding Comedy Series, the series bagged the awards for best actor, actress, writing and direction in the comedy category.

Other than that, HBO’s drama series Succession dominated the awards in its category winning total 4 trophies the way it was widely anticipated.  ‘Watchmen’ a series adapted from comic-book, slayed with total 11 Emmy awards out of 26 nominations making it one of the big winners from the night.

Stars like Catherine O’Hara and Eugene Levy took the lead comedy acting awards for Schitt’s creek along with Zendaya and Jeremy Strong won lead acting awards in Drama Series for ‘Euphoria’ and ‘Succession’ respectively. ‘We’re The Millers’ actress Jennifer Aniston joined the host Kimmel to burn the stage quite literally, and to present award to Catherine O’Hara for lead actress in a comedy series where the duo had a fun conversation while sanitizing the award envelope which eventually caught fire.
