A few months ago, Munmun Dutta aka Babitaji from Taarak Mehta ka Ooltah Chashma faced a huge backlash due to a casteist slur controversy. Several FIRs were registered against the actress after one of her videos went viral on the internet. She was alleged of using a derogatory term against a certain community, in that video.
After all of the uproar, the entire cast of the serial was made to sign an undertaking that ensures that the cast won’t be using any foul language. As per a report in ETimes, the production house has made every actor of the show sign an undertaking that he/she will not use any foul language or make a casteist/ religious remark that may hurt any sentiment.
There were rumours about Munmun quitting the show. But the makers have made it clear that the actress won’t be quitting and the rumours were baseless.
FIR was filed against her under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. She later posted an apology on her social media handle. Munmun wrote, “This is about a video I posted yesterday wherein one word used by me has been misinterpreted. It was never said with the intent of insult, intimidate, humiliate or hurt anyone’s feelings. Because of my language barrier, I was genuinely misinformed about the meaning of the word. Once I was made aware of it meaning I immediately took the part down. I sincerely would like to apologize to every single person who has been unintentionally hurt by the usage of the word and I sincerely regret the same.”
