The 2024 National Film Award for Best Actor was awarded to Rishab Shetty. The announcement came on Friday, August 16. Furthermore, Hombale Films’ Kantara received the ‘Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment’ award.
Kantara, which debuted in September 2022, featured Rishab Shetty in the main role. It dominated the global cinema, captivating viewers with a folklore-based narrative that explored the complex relationship between humans and nature. The film revolves around a conflict between humans and nature, with Shiva as the rebel who works against nature. The movie is set and shot in Keradi, coastal Karnataka and explores the cultures of Kambla and Bhootha Kola.
Rishab not only portrayed the protagonist but also wrote and directed the film. The film was well received by celebrities, political figures, cricketers and audience. It grossed more than Rs 450 crore at the box office.
The 70th National Film Awards recognize films certified by the censor board from January 1 and December 31, 2022. President Droupadi Murmu will honour the winners, including the recipient of the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, in a ceremony scheduled for October 2024.
