The Kannada film industry is buzzing with rumors of a major fallout within the Kantara team. Actor-director Rishab Shetty has reportedly unfollowed his Kantara: Chapter 1 co-star Rukmini Vasanth, filmmaker Raj B. Shetty, and the production powerhouse Hombale Films on Instagram. While the move has shocked fans, industry insiders point to three key reasons behind the sudden digital distancing.

The primary reason cited for the rift is Rishab’s recent shift to the Telugu industry. Reports suggest that Hombale Films was keen on a third Kantara project, but Rishab chose to partner with Mythri Movie Makers for the high-budget mythological epic Jai Hanuman. This move to a rival production giant for a ₹200-crore project reportedly created a “professional chill” between the actor and the banner that launched him to global fame.

Adding fuel to the fire is Rishab’s recent push for his own production banner. On Ugadi, he shared a cryptic post captioned “Chapter Two Begins From Here,” notably featuring his own logo, Rishab Shetty Films, instead of Hombale’s. This has led many to believe that Rishab is looking to reclaim full creative and financial control over his future projects, leading to a possible “divorce” from his long-time backers.

Internal reports also hint at creative friction during the making of Chapter 1. Rukmini Vasanth recently admitted that playing a negative role was “terrifying” and “stressful” due to industry pressures. Speculation suggests that as the franchise pivots toward Chapter 2, a disagreement over casting and the creative direction of the “Coastal Trio” (Rishab, Raj, and Rakshit Shetty) may have finally boiled over.

Despite the unfollows, Rishab still follows Hombale head Vijay Kiragandur, leaving a small window for a potential reconciliation. However, for now, the “Kantara Universe” appears to be at a definitive crossroads.
