Actor, comedian, and YouTuber, Bhuvan Bam is expected to appear as a commentator in the Indian remake of the iconic Japanese game show Takeshi’s Castle. According to the producers, Bhuvan Bam would bring elements of fun and amusement to the role of Titu Mama from BB Ki Vines.
Bhuvan Bam has taken over as the show’s commentator from Jaaved Jaaferi.
The series will be available on Prime Video, but no release date has been announced. The show will keep the peculiarities seen in the original edition, such as unique set-ups and tough activities accompanied by amusing commentary.
Over 100 contestants will attempt to storm the castle while fighting off guards, devils, and huge foam mushrooms. The winner may walk away with a million yen.
Opening up about the show, Bhuvan Bam in an interview said, “Since the original version of Takeshi’s Castle was on television, I have been an ardent fan of the concept, execution and the hilarity of the game-show. It’s highly nostalgic for me to have grown up seeing the show and now voicing it, is genuinely a full circle moment. I don’t think there is any one in my generation who hasn’t loved and enjoyed this madcap comedy.”
He added, “Being a part of this incredible game-show is a privilege and an honor. As an entertainer, my viewers have always appreciated the unique yet relatable characters that I’ve portrayed, and I happy to bring a bit of my creative self as ‘Titu Mama’. I am hopeful that the younger generation will get love this show as much as we did.”
Fans, on the other hand, were dissatisfied with the show’s new voice. “Playing with people’s feelings here!” said one user on Instagram. “Javed Jaffrey was needed,” wrote another. Third user commented, “Javed Jaffery Commentary is filled with emotion and is incomparable.” Many users went on to say, “No one can replace Lord Javed Jaffrey.”
The original Takeshi’s Castle is a Japanese show, first aired in 1986. Pogo began airing a shorter version of the show with Hindi narration by Jaaved Jaaferi in 2005. A second season was attempted in 2019 with various comedians Raju Srivastav, Sunil Pal, Navin Prabhakar, and Ahsaan Qureshi replacing Jaffrey but was not as successful.
Takeshi’s Castle will be available on Prime Video soon. The release date, however, has yet to be confirmed.
