X-Men ’97 is a highly anticipated animated series within the world of international popular culture, offering both nostalgia and originality from the iconic X-Men: The Animated Series of the 1990’s. The series continues with its exhilarating and emotionally solidified history of mutant conflicts and dramatic battles. Fans are excited about the release of Season Two, which will bring in a new wave of time-hopping chaos due to First Apocalypse becoming a major threat, plus many other elements (including creating new relationships, generational conflicts, and traveling throughout different periods of human history). There will be more suspense created by the end of Season One than in any season of the past. The television program remains true to its comic book heritage and character development.
X-Men ’97 Season 2 Release Timeline
Marvel Studios has officially confirmed that X-Men ’97 Season 2 will premiere in Summer 2026 on Disney+.
The announcement came during the “New York Comic Con,” held in New York City, in October 2025.
While no specific release date has been announced, the following timeline estimates the premiere occurring sometime between June 2026 and August 2026.
All voice-over work on X-Men ’97 season 02 has been completed. X-Men ’97 season 03 has been confirmed; studios are already engaged in preliminary development.
Because of the length of time it takes to create an animated series at Marvel – combined with production and scheduling delays that occurred after the release of X-Men season 01 (ending in May 2024) – we estimate there will be an approximate twenty-four-month wait until X-Men season 02 is released.
X-Men ’97 Season 2 Expected Cast.
The core voice cast from Season 1 — many reprising their iconic 1990s roles — is expected to return:
- Cal Dodd as Wolverine
- Jennifer Hale as Jean Grey / Phoenix
- Ray Chase as Cyclops (Scott Summers)
- Alison Sealy-Smith as Storm
- Lenore Zann as Rogue
- Holly Chou as Jubilee
- Adrian Hough as Nightcrawler
- Ross Marquand in multiple villain and supporting roles
No major cast exits have been reported.
Former showrunner Beau DeMayo is no longer involved with the series following his removal in 2024. Veteran X-Men: The Animated Series creatives Eric Lewald, Julia Lewald, and Larry Houston have joined as executive producers, maintaining continuity with the original show’s tone and vision.
X-Men ’97 Season 2 Potential Plot
The second season continues directly from where the first season end, and where the X-Men are now scattered throughout time.
Apocalypse has become the main villain for this season and has been inspired by the storyline of the Age of Apocalypse comic book series.
There are multiple timelines in this season that include ancient Egypt, the 1990s, and possible future dystopias.
There will also be more of Archangel, as seen in previews from NYCC and various merchandise.
There will be ongoing consequences of Magneto’s leadership and emotional consequences between the various members of the core group: Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, Rogue, Wolverine, Gambit, Beast, Jubilee, and Nightcrawler.
Marvel has also indicated that Season 2 is positioning itself for Season 3, with escalating stakes and a large-scale battle of mutants and a payoff in the long run.
