One of the most anticipated animated series in fantasy over-the-top content is The Mighty Nein, which showcases the incredible journey of a collection of misfit criminals as they navigate secrets, broken lives, and high-stakes quests in Exandria. As fans await Season 2, they are looking forward to exploring more of the characters’ backstories, increasing the scale of heists, grappling with moral quandaries, understanding the generational bonds that connect the characters, and laughing at the chaos that ensues, as depicted through the unforgettable lens of the Mighty Nein after the high points of Season 1, which will undoubtedly be available on Prime Video in late 2025. Production is moving quickly, and a 2026 premiere on Prime Video is anticipated.

The Mighty Nein Season 2 Release Date Speculations

The Mighty Nein currently does not have an announcement regarding the date for the premiere of Season 2, but it is slated to be in production, and the first season of the series (which debuted on November 19, 2025) has concluded as of late December 2025 on Prime Video, with the episodes being released in groups.

In December 2025, Sam Riegel (executive producer and cast member) stated that the animation and post-production teams were actively working on the first two episodes of the second season, intending to air them in 2026 — specifically, he hoped to air the first season in early to mid-2026.

Several entertainment news organizations have provided their estimates of premiere dates for Season 2 of The Mighty Nein, noting that late 2026 and early 2027 are common premiere dates for new animated series because animation typically takes two years or longer. However, due to how far along production has progressed to date, it is entirely plausible that The Mighty Nein will premiere sometime in early to mid-2026 (as a matter of years) than it typically takes for most animated series to complete the episodes’ production. Without additional announcements of specific dates from either Critical Role or Prime Video, 2026 remains the only reasonable date provided to date for a premiere on either of these platforms, but no specific dates have been provided thus far to date.

The Mighty Nein Season 2 Expected Cast

The full main voice cast is expected to return for Season 2, and the Critical Role players will remain providing the voices for their Campaign 2 characters from Season 1.
Returning cast members are also expected to include: Laura Bailey as Jester Lavorre; Travis Willingham as Fjord; Liam O’Brien as Caleb Widogast; Marisha Ray as Beauregard “Beau” Lionett; Ashley Johnson as Yasha Nydoorin; Sam Riegel as Nott / Veth Brenatto; and Taliesin Jaffe as Mollymauk Tealeaf. Matthew Mercer will also likely return to provide multiple NPC voices.

No major cast changes or new additions have been announced at this time, and the directing team continues to feature a multi-director group including Eugene Lee and Micah Gunnell. Tasha Huo remains the showrunner.

The Mighty Nein Season 2 Potential Plot

This new season will follow on from the first, which told some of the stories about how the characters came to be, such as their escape from prison, their first heist in Zadash, their first time interrogating a person, and their finding of an all-powerful Arcane object. We can expect the second season to increase the depth of the characters’ backstories, especially Caleb Widogast, and their political and magical consequences following the discovery of the Arcane object.

With more morally difficult decisions, more complicated plans, and changing dynamics among the Mighty Nein can also be expected. They will move from small-scale survival to large-scale conflict that will affect the world. While there have been only select stories chosen to adapt to TV, so far the series has stayed true to the main story beats in the campaign, while adjusting pacing to suit television.

Now that season 1 is available on Amazon Prime, we are in a great position for an even broader, darker, and more emotionally complex second season!
