Karan Johar spoke about Student of the Year 3 at the Cinevesture International Film Festival (CIFF) in Chandigarh. He also announced his future web series, which will be helmed by Reema Maya of Nocturnal Burger fame, according to TOI.
When asked about collaborating with young directors and writers, Karan provided the example of Reema Maya, who will helm the digital version of Student of the Year. He added, “But it will be her way and definitely not mine because if I’ll enter Reema Maya’s world, then I will make it more of an illusion, which is what her name means. I just wanted it to be her voice. She made it her own series.”
Reema, an award-winning writer-director and co-founder of Catnip Productions, is known for her independent films. Her short films, like Counterfeit Kunkoo, have performed well at film festivals such as Sundance. Her most recent work, Nocturnal Burger, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2023. She has also directed videos for companies such as Netflix, Red Bull, and BoAT.
Karan Johar’s Student Of The Year (2012) introduced three newcomers: Alia Bhatt, Sidharth Malhotra, and Varun Dhawan, who made their Bollywood debut. Some years later, Puneet Malhotra directed ‘Student of the Year 2’, which starred Tiger Shroff, Ananya Panday, and Tara Sutaria.
According to speculation, KJo aims to star Shanaya Kapoor in the film franchise that has been turned into a web series. Shanaya, who is preparing for her debut in Mohanlal’s ‘Vrushabha’, was also slated to make her OTT debut. Although her debut was expected in Dharma Productions’ Bedhadak, with Laksh Lalwani and Gurfateh Pirzada, the film has apparently been postponed.
Karan Johar’s last directorial work was Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. He teased fans with the announcement of a film in January but did not reveal the title or cast.
