Sanjay Leela Bhansali to commence work on his first web series Heera Mandi right after wrapping up Gangubai Kathiawadi

The Gangubai Kathiawadi sets will be brought down and improvements will be made for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s web-series debut Heera Mandi

Sanjay Leela Bhansali may have barely wrapped up all shooting schedules for his film with Alia Bhatt, Gangubai Kathiawadi, but he has had no intermission.

According to media broadcasts, Bhansali is taking off to start shooting for his first-ever web series, Heera Mandi, in the same studio, shortly. The Gangubai Kathiawadi sets will be revised for the shoot of Heera Mandi that is produced by SLB and directed by Vibhu Puri.

“It wasn’t easy to complete Gangubai Kathiawadi, especially in the last leg. The new mutant (Delta) of COVID in Maharashtra has infused a lot of scare in the film and TV industry. While a few restarts and beginnings have been made, we can only hope that they will sustain; one single case in a unit throws everything out of gear,” revealed a source about the new developments.

While there has been no official testimony on this, it is rumoured that actors Sonakshi Sinha, Huma Qureshi, Nimrat Kaur, Sayani Gupta and Manisha Koirala will be acting in the show.

Bhansali is inclined to have Madhuri Dixit on the team for an elegant mujra in Heera Mandi. Madhuri has also shown curiosity in the song. Bhansali, on the other hand, believes that nobody else can bring the compassion and prestige to the dance form that Madhuri can.

Heera Mandi is based on the red light area in the walled city of Lahore and focuses on the lives of prostitutes living there. The period drama will release on streaming giant Netflix.
