The latest episode of reality show Rise and Fall, hosted by Ashneer Grover, took a dramatic turn when contestant Noorin Shah accused choreographer Dhanashree Verma of coming to the show to play a “victim card” following her divorce with cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal.
Noorin Shah’s remarks
During a heated conversation, Noorin directly alleged: “I think we all know and as per the gossip around, aap sirf victim card khelne aae ho (you came only to play the victim card).” Her comments suggested that Dhanashree was attempting to clear her image through the reality show platform after being at the center of social media trolling since her separation.
Dhanashree’s side of the story
Dhanashree, however, maintained a dignified tone. Speaking earlier in the episode, she opened up about dealing with backlash after her divorce, stating that she deliberately chose respect over mudslinging. “Sabke haath mein apni izzat hoti hai… I could have been disrespectful too, you think I don’t have things to say, as a woman? But he was my husband, I respected him even when I was married, and I have to respect the fact that I was married to him,” she explained.
She further clarified that she is no longer interested in love, saying: “I’m not cynical about love, maybe that’s a harsh word, but I’m not interested.”
Her comments on moving on
Talking about her journey of moving forward, Dhanashree shared: “If you want to portray yourself in a good light, let your work speak; why put somebody else down to clean your image?… We live in a country where we know support will be favoured to one particular side. Still, if you want to discuss that, then it’s intentional — but it’s okay, please, everyone be happy.”
Background: Dhanashree and Chahal’s divorce
Dhanashree Verma married Yuzvendra Chahal in December 2020, after meeting him during the pandemic through online dance lessons. The couple filed for divorce in February 2025, and it was granted in March this year.
She had previously spoken about the emotional toll of the separation in a Humans of Bombay podcast, where she recalled breaking down in court during the final hearing. She also commented on Chahal wearing a controversial T-shirt reading “Be Your Own Sugar Daddy” that day, quipping: “Arre bhai, WhatsApp kar deta. T-shirt kyun pehna hai?”
