Ashneer Grover’s Rise & Fall, set to stream on Amazon MX Player from September 6, 2025, is already making headlines. But what many don’t know is that the Indian version is adapted from a UK reality television series that premiered on Channel 4 in 2023.
The UK original
Rise and Fall was first broadcast in the United Kingdom on Channel 4 on 19 March 2023, hosted by Greg James. The show featured 16 contestants, split into two groups — the Rulers and the Grafters.

The Rulers lived in a luxury penthouse, making decisions that shaped the game.

The Grafters lived in the basement, carrying out tasks to add money to the prize pot.
In each episode, the Rulers voted one of their own out, while a Grafter could earn a chance to move up to the penthouse. At the end of the season, the winner was chosen from among the Rulers, taking home a prize pot of up to £100,000.
Episodes aired on Channel 4 every evening and were also made available for streaming on All 4, making it one of the most talked-about UK reality formats of 2023.
The Indian version
The Indian edition mirrors the same structure. Contestants are divided into Rulers enjoying a lavish penthouse and Workers (in place of Grafters) who live in a bare-basics basement. Workers constantly battle to overthrow Rulers and rise to power. With Ashneer Grover as host, the show adds a sharp, local edge to the globally recognized format.
