Overlord, the dark fantasy isekai anime based on Kugane Maruyama’s light novel series, has captivated fans since its debut in 2015. With Ainz Ooal Gown (formerly Momonga) and his Nazarick forces dominating the New World, the series wrapped up its fourth season in 2022. Fans have eagerly awaited news on Season 5, and while no official confirmation has come from Studio Madhouse or the production committee as of January 2026, leaks and rumors point to promising developments.
Overlord Season 5 Release Date Speculations
As of January 2026, neither Studio Madhouse nor Kadokawa, nor the anime’s official production committee, but made an official announcement regarding Overlord Season 5. There isn’t a formal announcement, teaser, key image, or confirmed release date for the upcoming season.
A popular anime leaker said that Season 5 had been approved in September 2024, which caused a lot of fans to talk about it. However, as no formal follow-up has been issued, this information is still unconfirmed. Based on prior announcement-to-release gaps, many fans think that Season 5, might release in late 2026 or early 2027, with some conservative estimate that it will extend to 2028.
The source material has a significant impact on timing as well. Volumes 17 and 18 of the Overlord light book series are still unpublished, and the story is coming to an end. In order to give the novels more time to develop before adapting the following arc, production may be purposefully postponed.

The Elf Country arc from light novel Volumes 15 and 16 would probably be adapted for Season 5 if it were made, with an emphasis on the Slane Theocracy and the formidable half-elf god-kin. The arc further demonstrates Ainz’s overwhelming supremacy in the world while delving deeper into political manipulation and extending threats beyond previously subjugated kingdoms.
With the introduction of new factions, heavenly bloodlines, and moral conflicts between absolute power and frail humanity, the plot is expected to intensify until the series’ conclusion. Although these arcs move the story closer to the conclusion, either a later season or a concluding movie would probably be needed to adapt the last light novel volumes.
Until Season 5’s production is officially confirmed, all narrative expectations are still theoretical.
