Dunki, starring Shah Rukh Khan, is now available on the digital portal Netflix, some two months after its theatrical debut. The Rajkumar Dirani-directed picture was initially rumoured to be released on Jio Cinemas, but this proved to be false.
Netflix recently announced on its official Instagram account that Dunki is now accessible to view. The caption on the post said, “Pack your bags! After a Dunki around the world, @iamsrk is coming home Dunki, now streaming on Netflix!”
According to reports, Netflix paid a high fee for Dunki’s OTT rights. According to multiple publications, including India Today, the streaming giant purchased the rights for a stunning Rs 120 crore last year. Earlier conjecture suggested that the digital rights were sold for a record Rs 155 crore; however, it appears that the actual transaction was for Rs 120 crore.
Furthermore, according to Indian Express, the combined digital and satellite rights of Rajkumar Hirani’s movie have been sold for an astonishing Rs 230 crore.
Dunki, which was released on December 21, follows the emotional journey of a group of friends who want to relocate overseas. The plot follows their unique path, known as the Donkey Flight, and depicts the problems they face along the way.
Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal have major roles in the film, alongside Shah Rukh Khan. Dunki has been a success, grossing over Rs 300 crore at the Indian box office.
