
Iwájú, one of the much-anticipated animation series is finally making its way to Disney+. Based on a sci-fi theme, the series is directed by Ziki Nelson. The initial announcement regarding the show was made a few years ago. It was revealed that Walt Disney will be collaborating with Pan-African entertainment company Kugali for an upcoming animated mini-series.
Since then, the series has been highly anticipated by the audience. However, now it seems like the wait is finally as the show is getting premiered on the 28th of February. An official trailer has been released by the makers ahead of its release, sharing interesting insights from the gripping plot.
Iwájú, which is set in the backdrop of a futuristic Lagos, Nigeria will explore the challenges of class, race and status quo. The coming-of-age story follows the life of a young girl Tola, from a wealthy island and her best friend Kole, a self-taught tech expert. It will depict the deep secrets of two different worlds and what complexities they pose for them.
The 6-episode animated series will include cast members such as Simisola Gbadamosi voicing for Tola, while others such as Dayo Okeniyi, Femi Branch and Weruche Opia. Siji Soetan will voice Kole.
Iwájú is created by Ziki Nelson, Hamid Ibrahim and Toluwalakin Olowofoyeku. It is co-written by Adeola Hudson and Halima Hudson. The original long-term animated series is produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios. The word Iwájú means “the future” in the Yoruba language.
