Shōgun Season 2 will not be released in February 2026, according to official reports and current production schedules. Although significant information regarding the series’ continuation has been confirmed and it has been renewed, the release window sets it far later than early 2026.
Season 2 production is scheduled to start in Vancouver in January 2026. There will be ten episodes in the upcoming season, and important cast members including Cosmo Jarvis (John Blackthorne) and Hiroyuki Sanada (Lord Yoshii Toranaga) will be back. In terms of creativity, the plot shifts from the James Clavell novel to an original continuation created by the showrunners, jumping ten years after the events of Season 1.
Shōgun Season 2 Release date Speculation
FX has not yet declared a formal premiere date. However, a 2027 premiere is the most reasonable forecast, according to industry publications including TV Guide, Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, and Deadline. A February 2026 release would be considerably too early, as filming will only begin in early 2026. Although a mid-to-late 2027 release is also quite likely, the majority of forecasts place the premiere in early 2027 at the absolute earliest—possibly in January or February to replicate Season 1’s February 2024 launch. Depending on post-production requirements, some longer-range projections even go as far as early 2028.
It took a long time to produce and post-produce of Season 1, and the makers have made it clear that quality should take precedence over haste. They have also stated that the series won’t return until it is completely finished. A longer wait is appropriate considering the scope, historical richness, and cinematic production quality of Shōgun.
The show is still available to stream on FX and Hulu in the United States, while Disney+ is carrying it abroad. Following the start of filming and the start of FX’s promotional campaign, more specific information regarding the release date of Season 2 is expected.
