Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is among the most eagerly anticipated anime sequels in global OTT markets and returns us to the chaos of Night City with an all-new original story set against a backdrop of dazzling neon lights, street gangs, and cybernetic enhancements. This will be an exciting 10-episode addition to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners that will entertain viewers through redemption, revenge, action, and themes of dystopia as depicted by Studio Trigger’s trademark bloody and visceral style. This sequel comes on the heels of the acclaimed Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, which first aired in 2022, and raised expectations to a whole new levelú.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 Release Date Speculations
The animated series for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was first revealed at Anime Expo 2025 by CD Projekt Red in collaboration with Studio Trigger and Netflix. After the successful release of the original series, the streaming service has confirmed that they plan to produce a second installment based on the existing Cyberpunk universe. Further details about the production of this series are currently underway, as there has not yet been an announcement regarding when it will be released.
While there are no confirmed dates or timelines for release, there is speculation that the second season will likely be available sometime in 2027, based on the anticipated timeframe of similar Studio Trigger properties and prior experience with previous production schedules. The studio will make a formal announcement once it has completed its plans.
As previously mentioned, the second season will feature 10 episodes but will expand upon the storyline created in the original series. While the two series will take place in the same universe, they are not intended to be a direct continuation.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 Expected Cast
The creators of Season 2 have made it very clear that Season 2 will feature a new cast of characters and that the previous hero from Season 1, David Martinez, will not return. Lucy (and the rest of the original characters) will also not be back as main characters, either.
Currently, no voice cast has been confirmed for the new characters. Instead, most of the early announcements about the project have focused on the behind-the-scenes team.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 Potential Plot
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 tells a standalone narrative set within the realm of Night City and is not seen as a sequel to the first season. The creators referred to this season as being “a raw account of revenge and redemption,” thus increasing the level of brutality and darkness in comparison to season one.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 will take place within the framework of Cyberpunk 2077’s universe; however, it will have new protagonists and explore other regions throughout Night City. The creators indicated that they want to convey a more realistic view of how to live in Night City and focus on new emotional stakes rather than rehashing prior arcs.
