Monali Thakur applauds Sonu Nigam’s ‘music mafia’ comment says, “they crush you like ants”

Last week Sonu Nigam’s music mafia allegations against the Indian music industry have led to another controversy in Bollywood. After those allegations, several singers have come out in support of Sonu Nigam. Recently Adnan Sami and Alisha Chinai spoke about the occurrence of power play and nepotism in Bollywood and that a change is knocking at the doors of the music industry.

Now, playback singer Monali Thakur has also come out in favor of Sonu Nigam’s allegations and shared that after watching Nigam’s video, she sent him a message, thanking him for speaking the truth. She shared how grateful she is of voicing what is right and because he is a senior and has been in the industry for a long time, he knows how the scene actually is.
Further, she added that because of the ‘mafiagiri’ in the music industry, she had to take care of her mental health and so isolated herself.

She told Bollywood Spy in a video interview, “I was thankful to him because he is a senior and he has been in the industry for so long. He is a very big name and an iconic musician. He is over all these things… But it is so true that there is a lot of ‘mafiagiri’ in the music industry. Nobody gets their due. That is the reason why I do not like the atmosphere and ecosystem of the music industry. I don’t even try to get movie songs anymore. I alienated myself because I care for my mental health.”

She singer also added that talented and deserving musicians are ‘crushed like ants’ by the music labels and do not care. They keep promoting only people who can ‘hardly do anything with their lives’ and are mediocre, she said.

Saying that only musicians are signed by these labels who agree to give them 80 percent of their income, Monali termed this as ‘looting’ and called the labels ‘gangsters’ who are being unfair to musicians. She shared that there might not be any nepotism in the music industry but there is ‘goondagardi.’

This came after Sonu Nigam exposed the ugly workings of the music industry. Nigam shared that soon there might be news of singers dying by suicide in the future because of the atmosphere in the music industry.

Sushant Singh Rajput had died by suicide on June 14. He was in depression. Several reports stated that the actor was boycotted by various production houses due to nepotism.
