Legendary classical vocalist Pt. Jasraj passes away at the age of 90

Indian classical vocalist Pandit Jasraj passed away on 17th August, 2020 at the age of 90 in  New Jersey, America.

Pt. Jasraj was born into a family of outstanding musicians over four generations. He was initiated into music by his father, Pandit Motiram, until the age of three, when his father passed away. Later, he underwent intensive training under his elder brother and Guru, Pandit Maniram. Later, along his path of hard-earned maturity, he was guided by his spiritual Guru Maharaja Jaiwant Singh

Pandtiji belonged to the Mewati gharana. With a career spanning over 80 years, he received various prestigious awards and honours including Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan. His performances of classical and semi-classical vocals have become albums and film soundtracks. Jasraj has taught music in India, Canada and the US.
He was one of the major contributors to get the standard of Hindustani Classical music so high and in spreading the knowledge of this beautiful art worldwide. We pray for  his eternal soul and we thank his  service to the Indian Classical Music.
