It’s very difficult to describe Music in words and the feeling of being surrounded by good music, but once Author Victor Hugo wrote that “Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent.” Every year on 21st June, the world celebrates Fête de la Musique, also known as World Music Day and on this occasion, we tried to connect with various musicians to know their views on music, and what changes they have observed in this industry since the Coronavirus induced lockdown was imposed.

In an exclusive interaction with BusinessUpturn, Ravi Iyer who is a performer, composer, producer, and versatile musician expressed his love for music on this world music day.

When asked if we need a special day to recognize and celebrate music, Ravi Iyer said, “Music does not really need a special day to celebrate but I guess a chosen day worldwide just helps and gives a good reason for artists to come together in one voice. Especially around the globe who we don’t really get to interact on a day-to-day basis. So it’s more of a reason than a requirement.”

Recently, Sonu Nigam made headlines when he suggested that this industry is controlled by two Music-Mafias, to which Ravi told us that he is not in a position to comment on this as he is not directly related to this industry but rather he believes that if we practice what we preach, we might get a better understanding of things. He stated, “Well! Firstly I am not really directly connected with the mainstream music industry so it will be unfair to comment on Sonu Nigam’s recent YouTube video. But all I can say is that, if we Practice what we Preach would lend a clearer understanding be it any industry.”

The musician has taken this lockdown period as a lesson that has taught him many new things, “It’s a learning,” he suggested, after this lockdown, we must have realised what’s important and what’s unnecessary in the process of shooting and recording. He stated, “Hmm! I guess this unfortunate period has given a better understanding of the shoots and recordings to each one of us. So we may realise what we really require and what’s unnecessary. So it had definitely built an insight into how we could go about these efficiently in future. It’s a learning experience!” He mulled.

Contrary to most other Bollywood musicians, Ravi feels traditional music has not vanished from this industry or lost it’s existence, quipped he, “ I don’t think it’s vanishing from our industry but I guess it just gets packaged in a new envelope since the generations keep changing their wants. It may prevail strongly even today but we may not be noticing it.”

We wish all the music lovers, who are passionate about music and love the sound of life; a very Happy World Music Day.
