Erykah Badu has confirmed her long-awaited return to recording, announcing that she is working on a new album alongside hip-hop producer The Alchemist. The R&B icon, who last released a full-length studio album in 2010, stated that the decision to return to the studio felt natural.
Speaking at Billboard’s Women in Music ceremony, where she was honored with the Icon Award, Badu expressed her excitement about creating new music. She emphasized that while she considers herself primarily a touring artist, recording allows her to craft lasting memories for her audience.
Badu’s upcoming project marks a shift from her recent approach to music, which has focused on collaborations and live mixtape releases rather than full albums. Since 2019, she has contributed to various artists’ work but had not confirmed a solo project until now.
Beyond her influence in music, Badu has also made a mark in fashion. Last year, she was recognized at the CFDA Fashion Awards as a fashion icon. Known for her distinctive style, she remarked that fashion has always been an integral part of her identity, describing it as both a personal expression and a daily ritual.
During the CFDA ceremony, Badu was introduced by her former partner, musician André 3000. She humorously acknowledged him while discussing her passion for fashion, calling it her therapy and a form of artistic expression.
